Nearing 50 years of practice, Timothy Bowles is a veteran “management side” employment litigator with foundations in civil and constitutional law and pro bono international human rights protections.
As one of the state’s most experienced employer attorneys, Mr. Bowles’s work spans the gamut, representing private employers in alleged discrimination, harassment and retaliation matters, employee trade secret misappropriation and defense in class action “wage and hour” and “PAGA” actions. Mr. Bowles has represented clients in trial- and appeals-level courts, state and federal, as well as agency proceedings such as the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the California Civil Rights Department (CRD), Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) and Employment Development Department (EDD). He counsels on handling workplace disputes and implementing sound policies and practices to reduce the chances of litigation to the minimums possible.
Mr. Bowles is a frequent employment law blogger and speaker for employers and professional groups, including seminars on a wide range of personnel management issues, including gender-based discrimination and harassment, employee pay practices and workplace dispute resolution.
From decades of experience, he has also developed model employment forms and workplace policy manuals adapted and in practice by thousands of employers.
From 2005 to 2013, Mr. Bowles was a pro bono director for Youth for Human Rights International, developing successful human rights education and leadership initiatives in post-genocide West Africa as well as the United States.
Beginning in 2014, Mr. Bowles has created and spearheaded the African Literacy Campaign for Applied Scholastics International, an NGO dedicated to effective, competency-based teacher training and education worldwide.
